UEFA Might Introduce Another Two Referees

UEFA might introduce another two referees Posted 14 October 2008
The president of UEFA Michel Platini and the secretary general of the union David Taylor have appeared under strong impression of an experiment with two additional assistants to the main arbitrator which has been held during matches of a selection round of the European championship among juniors.
Thus, the referees could adjust better and improve the level of interaction. They had been accurately distributed duties according to which if an incident occurred – it would guide the main referee how to act. This experiment is promised to b continued in small matches and who knows, maybe we will witness a new arbitration system?

It's high time to up-date the football arbitration system. The game of football has progressed and only three referees is not enough. A lot of simulations, a lot of conflicts, off-sides etc.

Even remembering the case from the 2006 World Championship final, when Zidane beat that Italian player. Referees showed a red card after watching the playback, but according to UEFA rules, referees don't have the right to watch playbacks.

As prospects, the UEFA should think about introducing an automatic system which would require no referees. Referees sometimes make obvious mistakes, and because of their fault, result of matches are under question. Technology never, or almost never, makes mistakes.

Agree Max. Especially when it's about matches that decide who's the Champion, like World/European final...
It's a pity when all spectators see an obvious mistake from the referee's part, and he doesn't recognize that.

A computer system will never replace a referee. The referee is active and is first of all rational. Computer works strictly by the programmed rules. It has no brains and can not assess the situation correctly.
