Of course science is closer.
Just look around you everything you use daily is based on science.
Now tell me what is religion good for?

Mate materialism is not a religion. It has no god.
A religion must have a god, doesn't it?

science is just another method of examining the world Posted 07 January 2006
i think that science is just another method of examining and explaining the world around us. And i truly consider science as just another religion, such as Christianity or Islam.

Science is the bottom up view of the world Posted 07 January 2006
Science is the bottom up view of the world, whereas Religion is the top down view.

If truth is the object of both, then their views will not be inconsistent.

Science can never know if it is true, it is arrived at by induction.

Religion claims it is true, its claims can be verified by deduction.

scientific analysis was deductive Posted 07 January 2006
I would have thought that scientific analysis was deductive. Science's claims are modest, it would seem, when compared to the promises of religion.

Science is inductive Posted 07 January 2006
Science is inductive because it generalizes from partial evidence. Religion assumes its basic premises and uses theology to argue deductively. Science claims that it is self-correcting while religion claims it is infallible from the get-go.

Science and religion are opposite Posted 07 January 2006
Science gives knowliges based on reasones, wheres religion gives absolute truth. Science and religion are opposite to one another.

Religion is an opium for the masses, it was invented to keep people in control by ruler class.

Absolute truth is when you don't have the luxury of doubt. 8)

we all say that by the time we get in trouble! Remember the words you say when you're run out of options! You say "God, please help me!" Is that a good argument?

I can't chose an answer in regards to which one is closer to me. I believe one depends on the other. Still, I place religion higher than science.

The point is that we don't have to think only about religion. We should be believers, but, at the same time, we should find reasonable explainaitions for the things happening arround us.

More likely than not you cannot arrive at the ultimate truth by either science or religion.

Monotheistic religions are tautological and prove only themselves. You cannot deduce the truth from their self proclaimed truths.

Science is refutable. A falsified position leads to a better, more solid position. Until something better comes along, it is the latest position which people base their world knowledge on.

Science makes far more sense, but you will still have existential dilemmas. If you are a strong person, a searcher, a skeptic, this is the route for you.

If you want to stop searching for the truth and just accept one regardless of what common sense tells you, than religion is your answer. It is about faith. It will help you guide your life.

They both have their benefits. They both can lead to terrible consequences. Who wins? I think the correct question is which is better for you.

i think we don't need to argue which is important because on my own point of view religion and science are both essential in human existence.

Like Thomas Aquinas who was a great thinker he tried to figure out the relationship between science and religion.

Religion has no place in the modern world, it is a concept created by ancient man to explain things he didn't understand.
