Unfortunatly while I was in Paris my wife was pickpocket in front of the museum d orsay a very high risk place for travelers. They stole his mobile phone and some euros. After this problem we talk to the police and they told us that the people that is doing this came from Rumania, what was most amazing is that the police told us the exact description of the two thiefs. They were 2 of them and were like little mens ( less than 1.60 meters ).
They try to dress like tourists to pickpocket their victims.
If you travel to paris watchout from this rumanian people they are profesional stealers.
In the tower eiffel in the elevators there are signs that warn you from pickpockets this tell me how bad this problem is in paris.

After talking with people that sells old magazines in front of the museum D orsay, a taxi driver and also after going to the police directly in Paris they confirm to me that all the pickpocket thiefs in Paris came from Rumania, they mention this issue as the top problem in paris.
Also the police told me that they keep doing this because the thiefs are not armed and they get out of jail in less than 2 hours if the police got them.
I don't understand why the Paris Police don't do nothing about this issue, also I don't understand why the don't change the laws in Paris to make this issue a high crime so that thiefs don't get out in only 2 hours.
Please beware near the museum D orsay and in all the streets that are near, that zone is a high risk zone and the rumanians like to stole there.
There is a RER almost below the museum d orsay and I think that attracts more thiefs because they escape and they arrive thru the RER.
After the issue we have we go to a police near the museum D orsay and in that zone of Paris we see one interesting thing, they were one man and a woman over 50 years old thrownig a ring to the floor and then acting like they have found it and try to place that ring in your hand, at first I tell the man that I was no interested and then I see the same thing a cross the siena river with a woman and 2 tourists, the woman do the same thing and the tourists gave the woman some euros for the ring.
I think that sometimes if you get distracted they get some things from your pockets.
Please beware of the rumanian thiefs in Paris, there are thousands of them.
* Checking in google the rumanian people is also described as: Roma Thiefs, and Romanian Thiefs.
Interesting fact about this Roma Thiefs:
Crime by Romanians in the French capital rose by 259 percent over the past 18 months, he said. Many Romanians in Paris are from the Roma minority.
"Today in Paris the reality is that the perpetrator of one theft in five is a Romanian," he said, adding: "One theft in four committed by a minor is committed by a Romanian minor."
France launched a country-wide crackdown on unauthorised Gypsy camps this month after a group of Gypsies allegedly attacked a police station.
