Hi everyone! Just a "warning": This is just a post about what's currently happening in my life. I'm really excited about what's happening and just wish to share, hehe. I'm not expecting anything except for any advices you think may be helpful for me. Thanks!


Well, from the subject line, I'm a 21 year old college student and I am currently in my very first relationship ever. I had my first kiss exactly a week ago and is brand new to the dating scene. I guess you can say I am "virgin" to all this. hehe Well, I wasn't sure if I should post this under "Paris Romance Forum" because that's how we met. We chatted online for about 5 months on and off, and he was pretty persistent in talking with me. We have a lot in common and that's what made us click so easily. He was interested in me before seeing my pic, and when he came down to meet me (last week), he said he was even more delighted that I was pretty. hehe But anyways, he was just promoted and transfered to another city 2 weeks ago, so we decided to have a distant relationship. He said he'll only be living their for 6 months because after that, he's planning to own the store he's working for down here where I live. So, I'm willing to wait for him.


Being in this situation is really hard for me because considering this is my very first relationship, I'm not experiencing a "normal" relationship by seeing him whenever I want. I never had anyone hold me or kiss me and I really long for it. But, I suppose distance is what makes the heart grow fonder (and stronger!). But yeah, his birthday is in July and I don't know what to get him. Because we're devoted Christians, I was thinking about giving him a ring with and cross on it and embedded inside with our initials. Is that a bad idea? I wouldn't know and would like some advice on that. Well, I think I said enough for now. Thanks for reading and your advices in advance! God Bless!

Congratulations on your brand new relationship! It's nice to know that you found someone who has the same faith as you. That is something uncommon these days...but very important as well.


First of all, just take it nice and slow. First time relationships specially during the first few months is really hot and exciting. But if you want this love to last, be careful and let God be in control. Don't rush things. Allow yourselves to get to know each other slowly and allow love to grow gradually. That way, you'll build a strong foundation for your relationship.


For his birthday, try giving him something "light". What I mean is, if you give him a ring, you might give an impression that you're trying to possess him because a ring really has its "meaning" wether you like it or not. Perhaps on your second year together, on his next birthday, it might be more appropriate. For now, try t-shirt, or a collectible, or a nice keychain, or a specialty mug... something nice, memorable but isn't implying too much. Better yet, you can give him a book on spirituality. I suggest, books by Max Lucado. He's a really good author


Lastly, I'll be honest with you. Long distance relationships, wether dating or marriage, don't usually work. It's really a 1 out of 10 chance of being successful. Who know's? You could be that one successful figure right? But the point is, just take things slow. Avoid planning/expecting/doing too much too soon. You might both get overwhelmed and eventually lose focus on that which is of higher priority which is love AND each other. Above all, put God first because He's the One who's in control of everything. After all, He is the Author of Love
