Great Race Sports, Inc. is a 25 year-old company and organizer of motorsports competitions. We are looking for a public relations professional to represent us in the European market for The Great Race 2008 New York to Paris automotive event. We are looking for an individual and not a PR company. Great Race 2008 New York to Paris commemorates the 100th Anniversary of one of the most remarkable automotive adventures of the 20th century, a race around the globe from New York to Paris before the advent of todays modern highway and refueling systems. On May 30, 2008, an international field of more than 100 cars will depart from New York City and travel across North America, China and Europe, ending at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Aug. 2, 2008. Some will drive innovative vehicles powered by sustainable fuels intent on proving the viability of these technologies. This part-time position will be based in Europe and will involve working with our Publicity/Marketing team in the development and execution of publicity plans and programs to enhance the visibility of The Great Race 2008 event in print, television, film, radio, digital, and mobile platforms. You will support publicity activities in Europe, and then represent The Great Race on the event as a media specialist as it circumnavigates the world.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills and strong media contacts in the European market. We are looking for a focused, detail-oriented individual who can multitask efficiently and work comfortably in a deadline-driven environment. He/she will be someone who is flexible and can adapt to changing goals and objectives. This person will also be highly organized and able to work independently, while contributing to the goals of a team. Clear, concise communication skills and a passion for automotive travel and the environment are a must.
Responsibilities
Write PR plans and edit press releases, corporate communications, and online materials about The Great Race and the company
Work with in-house team members to develop, implement and manage internal and external communications to broaden exposure of The Great Race
Develop and manage the execution of event publicity through pre-launch, launch and post launch phases
Maintain and build solid entertainment contacts at national and regional broadcast, print, and entertainment media outlets
Correspond with the press as a representative of The Great Race as needed
Conduct European press events as necessary
Answer written interview questions about The Great Race event
Write articles and news blurbs for The Great Race web site
Qualifications
This contract requires up to 20 hours per week and begins May, 2007. The candidate must be able to accompany the live event from New York to Paris from May 30, 2008 to August 2, 2008.
Minimum of five years publicity experience, including sports and/or entertainment industry experience as well as corporate and/or agency experience
General knowledge of media, both national and local, including print, TV, film, radio, digital and mobile platforms
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to work well with all levels of employees, both within and outside the company
Excellent organizational skills
Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Must have a strong media relations background with proven placement results
Experience in managing a team of PR professionals
Must possess excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, while maintaining an ability to always stay focused on the work at hand
Must be fluent in one European language and English
Crisis-management experience is a plus
Public-speaking skills are a plus
