We are looking for a Publishing Licensing Coordinator to join our team!
SUMMARY
Works closely with supervisor, publishing team, and President/Grant to plan and coordinate all aspects of the companys publishing licensing policies, objectives, and initiatives for European territories. MUST be bilingual (speak, read, write) in both English and Japanese. French fluency (speak, read, write) strongly preferred. Must be available and able to train for approximately 6 months at VIZ Media headquarters in San Francisco.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Responsible for licensing of VIZ publishing titles in relevant territories.
2. Primary contact with local publishers for new business, including negotiating and preparing contracts.
3. Primary contact with local publishers for marketing concepts and marketing approvals.
4. Presents new offers to Japanese licensors.
5. Liaison between local publishers, head office in San Francisco, and Japanese licensors for all publishing matters.
6. Works closely with all relevant partners to make sure manga business runs smoothly.
7. Works closely with partners to develop market-appropriate plans to promote manga.
8. Understands royalty statements and supports supervisor and President/Grant in monitoring royalty payments and other financial transactions to ensure budget objectives are met.
9. Analyzes market information and monitors effectiveness of licensing strategy.
10. Builds and maintains favorable working relationships with rights holders, partners, and licensees.
11. Works closely with VIZ Media publishing approvals team to ensure that licensed publishing content is published within VIZ and Licensor guidelines. .
12. Represents the company at various events and meetings.
13. Travels to and attends various trade shows related to licensing and rights sales.
14. Supports supervisor and President/Grant with Licensor communication related to contractual and royalty issues.
In addition to these typical duties, may perform other duties as assigned and required.
MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to prepare and process contracts relating to international rights and licensing agreements and monitor accompanying financial transactions; ability to comprehend and master details of foreign rights transactions.
Ability to speak and write effectively in both English and Japanese A MUST
Ability to speak and write effectively in French STRONGLY PREFERRED.
Ability to interact with culturally diverse clients, service providers and staff.
Ability to utilize Windows, Microsoft Word, and appropriate software programs.
Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork.
Ability to interact with culturally diverse clients, service providers and staff.
Ability to work legally in the EU.
Ability to live in/commute to VIZ Media Europe headquarters in Paris, France.
MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
3-5 years of relevant business experience.
Publishing experience a MUST.
Entertainment licensing a PLUS.
Equivalent of Degree from an accredited university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not supervise the work of others.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials, weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Approximately 75 percent of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal. Must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Must be available for work-related travel.
As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. OTHER INFORMATION
Employees must adhere to all applicable VIZ Media Europe, S.A.R.L policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Willingness and ability to work non-standard business hours, such as nights, on an as-needed basis is required. Employees must be able to cope effectively with deadlines and multiple demands.
