We are looking for a Director, Licensing & Brand Management to join our team!
SUMMARY
Responsible for developing and managing licensing and brand strategy programs for designated VIZ Media Europe (VME) series across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. This position will be responsible for developing VMEs consumer products business in partnership with VME licensing agents and directly with licensees. Candidate will work closely with President/Grant to create and implement brand strategies which create maximum brand exposure and consistency by bridging a variety of media, including but not limited to manga publishing, television broadcast and new platform exploitation (internet and mobile), consumer products licensing, DVD distribution, retail and tie-in promotions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Establishes strategic direction for brands across VIZ Media Europe territories.
2. Works closely with, and provides supervision and direction to, VIZ Media Europe licensing agents and other key partners, to maximize licensing activities for all VIZ brands.
3. Identifies new licensing initiatives and manages existing relationships and programs.
4. Responsible for sales, account management, securing new partners, deal negotiation and budgeting.
5. Grows business by finding new licensing partners and initiatives as well as maximizing current relationships.
6. Manages budget and forecasting processes in accordance with sales trends and business opportunities.
7. Works with licensing agents, licensees and promotional partners to establish marketing and retail strategy and assist in executing plans.
8. Works with licensing agents, licensees and promotional partners to ensure that VIZ brands achieve maximum exposure and impact in all territories.
9. Works closely with licensing and brand teams in San Francisco head office to ensure European brand development is consistent with VIZ strategic direction.
10. Responsible for deal negotiation and contract management.
In addition to these typical duties, may perform other duties as assigned and required.
MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Experience working with entertainment companies in a similar capacity A MUST.
Entertainment licensing and brand management experience in key European markets A MUST.
Established relationships in the industry A MUST.
Fluency (read, write, speak) in English A MUST.
Fluency (read, write, speak) in French and other European-based languages A PLUS.
Proven track record in managing high level business relationships.
Excellent people management, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking skills.
Very strong sales and presentation skills.
Strong product knowledge and marketing savvy.
Skilled in negotiating, deal structuring, and closing.
Demonstrated fiscal responsibility including budgeting, P & L, and forecasting.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork.
Ability to utilize PC or Mac systems and appropriate software programs.
Ability to interact with culturally diverse clients, service providers, and staff.
Ability to work legally in the EU.
Ability to live in/commute to VIZ Media Europe headquarters in Paris, France.
MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
AT LEAST 7-10 years of European licensing experience.
Consumer Products experience a PLUS.
Licensing, Marketing, or related experience STRONGLY PREFERRED.
Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise and provide guidance to VIZ Media Europe staff.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials, weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Approximately 75 percent of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal. Must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Must be available for work-related travel.
As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. OTHER INFORMATION
Employees must adhere to all applicable VIZ Media Europe, S.A.R.L policies and procedures. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Willingness and ability to work non-standard business hours, such as nights, on an as-needed basis is required. Employees must be able to cope effectively with deadlines and multiple demands.
