Who Are You ???? In Paris

who are you ???? in Paris Posted 25 October 2005
So toda y I was on (in) a London forum trying to sort out a few details for my daughter's 16th birthday trip to London and I happened upon this thread I have always felt a need to know something about those to whom I tell my secrets, and I stole this from Mick67 in london.

"As we are all 'talking' to each other online, I thought it would be a good idea if we give each other a little bit of background about each other. Feel free to give as much info or as little as you please just so long as it's not a complete autobiograohy, just a little bit of who you are, where you come from "

I discovered TA.com last week and the Paris forum, and definitely feel like I would like to know a bit more about the people to go with the personalities I am listening to.

I am a 50+ year old mom and teacher from Calgary who planned a getaway five years ago, with my then 10 year old daughter, who was in french immersion.
At the time we only thought we would spend a year in some place where she could continue her french. Well here I am in the Haute Loire, near Lyon having shovelling more snow than I have had to in the last few years back home in the Rockies. Everyone in the TINY village (600 people) we live in has blamed me for the record snowfall they have had here this winter.
My 15 year old is perfectly fluent now, and is campaigning hard to stay on another year, after I go back to my real life. (not going to happen by the way) I am not fluent, so get left out of the fast French a bit.
We have only done small day and weekend trips on school breaks, south of France - Nice, Antibes, Monaco, Strasbourg , Lyon, and a very exciting week in Turkey.
We will be in London for 5 days the end of April for her 16th birthday, and are planning a road trip to Paris, D Day beaches, Mont St Michel, Carnac and back home end of May.
I have a 26 year old son and a long suffering and very patient husband of many years who is holding down the fort at home; with my 16 year old Golden Retriever Jake, and two neurotic though loveable siamese cats Frazer and Lilith.( don't ask.. you need to know the series)
I will have questions, I know in the next weeks. Thank you all for teaching me so much abou this country. I look forward to a possible glass of wine, cup of coffee or whatever 3rd week in May Ciao, Dona donaenfrance

To my fellow Canadian Dona:
Greetings from T.O. (Love Calgary!...Beautiful Rockies!).
So you live near Lyon? I was there with my sister last year in July...one whole month learning French. I'll be back in France for a couple of weeks. I leave in 19 days (not that I'm counting).
Ok, now for the bio. I'm 32, finishing my Masters of Teaching degree from the University of Toronto. I'm in the process of finishing my research paper and applying for teaching positions. Ideally I'd like to teach Grade 2, 3 or 4, but I'll take whatever's out there. I speak English and Spanish, and trying to improve my French. I'm told having a French boyfriend is the best way to learn French...will work on that. What else...I have lived in North and South America. I'd like to live in BC (that's British Columbia, for non-Canadians) because I'm tired of harsh weather in Ontario. I think I could live with the rain. I think I'd like to live in Europe too...now, how do I get one of those burgundy passports?

I'm just a frequent visitor to Paris. So I'm not a permanent resident, but I like the feeling of Paris...
