Hi there KL70,
Nobody said Paris is a unique or the most beautiful city of all. But, it really is unique in its way. Each world city has something to be proud of and something that made it famous.
Now, first of all, if you take a look at the map of western Europe, you'll notice that Paris is in its center. The most developed European countries (Spain, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium etc.), in order to travel from one city to another, don't avoid visiting France, and subsequently - Paris. As we know, Europe is the world culture center. Americans and non-Europeans tend to visit Europe for seeing the nice and educational places inside it. Just think, what can be better than visiting a city that is the center of western Europe? To me, nothing
.
Paris is famous due to its "forever young" life style. You will never see anything that could remind of old fashion, sadness or boredom. If you are an average person who enjoys life, than Paris will make you not simply enjoy it, you will love it.
Let me emphasize the fact you'll never ever see unattractive people in Paris, regardless of whether these are men/women boys/girls. Everybody are polite, and this politeness is not fake (just to show it apparently) as met in many countries (won't mention them). Parisians are charming with their appearance and behaviour. As for Parisian girls.... oh la laa.... believe me, there is no place where men so easily fall in love with the locals.
I've once been to New York. My first impression towards the city was pretty nice, moreover, I liked it. But, as the time went by, I realized that this city is lacked of moral relationship. Everybody are so busy and thinking about money money money money... The skyscrapers won't give you one breathe of clean air.
And now, take a look at this picture
Never you will see anything alike in New York. Paris' core advantage and feature is that it's an open-air city. Certainly, as any modern city it does have its financial/business area where high buildings are raised and everyone look so busy. But, the vast majority of Paris area is, as if, created for tourists. So many public places to visit, that I'm afraid one year wouldn't be enough
The same as London, Paris is divided into two banks by the River Seine. While London is dived horizontally, Sena chose to divide Paris vertically (see picture below).
Beside all the above facts, many tourists decide to visit Paris in order to see the Eiffel Tower. It definitely is the place that beautify the city to the highest extent possible. Its height is 324 meters (1,063 feet - just a little smaller than the Statue of Liberty).
There are so many things to do in Paris, that I could speak forever. KL, just tell me what are you more interested in and what you like best, so I could guide you through.
Cheers
