Paris For 6 Months

Paris for 6 months Posted 15 October 2008
HI

We are a family of 4. I have two kids ages 4 and 2. My husband is getting a 6 month project in Paris. We will be living close to his work which is in la defence. Our rent and utilities will be paid for.

Do you think US$1500 which is roughly EUR 1100 will be enough to feed a family of four per month, it will include transport expenses as well. Will it be too tight or should we be able to save some? We don't eat out that much.

Also is La Defence area family friendly, I know it is a major business district but are there any parks, super markets around that area. Also wondering, if there are any ethnic stores around that area.

Thanks!

Hello,
You are lucky by moving to Paris. However I should tell you that 1,500$ would be tough for maintaining a four-member family. It's good that your rent is paid, since it's very expensive.
Actually, you can maintain your family with this money, but you definitely won't be able to afford something, let's say more luxurious or just buy some Paris-made stuff. That's why, yes, you should save money now, for making reserves.
Now about La Defense
It's Europe's biggest business area. Can you imagine - it offers 37.7 million square feet of office space, and includes about 150,000 business workers.
This is how it looks now

This is how authorities are planning to modernize it by 2015

I should tell you that you won't find too friendly people here. Everybody are so "cold-blooded" and think only about money/business/economy/politics.
That's why for family strolls you'll have to find other places.
