Nearly 200 Arrested In Paris After Labour Law Protest

Nearly 200 arrested in Paris after labour law protest Posted 17 March 2006
Paris - Police arrested 187 people in Paris as a group of protesters went on a rampage following Thursday's demonstration against a new youth labour law

Are people just having fun, or it is something serious? It seems strange that a labor law will cause such protests.

That's because some people just don't understand the purpose of that law.
It was made for young specialists not against them.

IMHO laws are always made to restrict freedom. There's even an ugly word which is used against people who notice the wrong part and talk about it - they are called anarchists.

My point is laws shall not restrict rights. Such a law is a step back to the slavery.

But there still was a try.
It is called precedent.
We'll see how much time shall pass before they try to push this law again.

Well there is another point of view to all this.
Now young professionals will not get hired, because there is a too big chance of getting an unexperienced person without the option of firing him at will.

Is it not possible to fire someone just because he can't handle the given tasks?

Of course, most employers want one year of experience, or two years, or three years, it doesn't really matter. How the hell would one gain that experience if at the moment when he has 0 years of experience nobody wants to employ him? Don't you see a logical contradiction here? This law was just a try to exploit the young generation. Just imagine that your boss tells you to choose between lowering your salary without having a good reason and firing you. Does the fact that you have more than one option to choose from make you happier in this case?

There is a thing called internship. While you are still student you go and work for companies just to gain experience. That's for free or for a very small salary.

This is all about their future, so they must defend their rights, isn't that so?

What I am happy about is, that authorities took action and attitude regarding this protest. And I mean for withdrawing the law, not for arresting those who protect their freedom.

By the end, what happened? I think I heard the French Government agreed with the protesters' demands, right?

You can. And if you was smart when hiring him and signing the contract you should’ve mention the test period too

frodo, of course you can fire that person, moreover, I would say you must fire him, unless you don't wanna go bankrupt.

They did do, but I don't think it was a long term solution
