YES...you can purchase a Carte Musee et Monuments pass in advance of when you plan to begin using it when you are in Paris. The pass comes in a sealed, cellophane envelope and does not become valid until you enter the DATE of its first day of use---then the 'clock' starts running on the pass. Bear in mind that the 'clock' runs in CONSECUTIVE calendar days---not 24 hour periods. So, if you were to date and use the pass on a Wednesday late-openning evening forthe Louvre, that's the first day of use---even though it wasn't first used until 7 PM. Of course if one were to carelessly forget to enter the date on the pass on its first day of use, the 'clock' wouldn't begin running until it was dated. This occasionally happens when tourists misunderstand instructions in a foreign language or misinterpret the English language translation which come with the pass. An observent museum attendent might notice and enter THAT day's date on the pass for you.
